EARLY PERFORMANCES, 1973-1981

1973, Adina Bar-On, 1st Performance in the yard of the Bezalel Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Jerusalem

"I announced my first performance (... (...) I wrote the hour and the day, in the yard of Bezalel  (...) After the performance I was told explicitly that I could'n go on doing things like that. The directors also invited the Bezalel psychologist to see if I was sane, and he indeed noted that I touched upon a very sensitive filaments in the viewers".

In May 1973, at the backyard of the Old Bezalel building in Jerusalem, on the paved surface surrounded by a low parapet. Chairs arranges in rows.  About twenty minutes.

(full description available in Idit Porat's book "Adina Bar-On. Performance Artist" published by Herzliya Museum of Art, 2001.

"Very, very strong, what I went through at your performance.

(...) I am stirred by the approach which I think should guide all of us - to touch the truth, and not in in all kinds of formal, aesthetic, etc., pseudo-intelectualism. I don't know what art is, for I've heard from "professional connoisseurs" that this is not art (...) And I don't  care if it is or it isn't and if art does touch upon these problems but in a different way that enables distance, form, material, causality, inner logic (formal as well)".

(exerpts from the letter of Gabi Klasmer)
